HR Insight

After days of searching, you finally found a great job on Adecco. You sent your CV, an Adecco consultant got in touch and soon enough we got you an interview with the hiring client. So far so good. Now all you need to do is ace a job interview. Nervous? Don’t be – We’ve got your back!

Here are the five practical tips from us to help you ace a job interview.

  1. Prepare for the actual interview – Nhi Bui – Manager – FA, FS & Professional Services

It’s important to picture how the interview will happen. Research the questions you may be asked and practice your answers – being well prepared shows that you are a candidate any organization would love to hire.

Furthermore, don’t forget to do some research about the company before setting foot into the office. A solid foundation of knowledge and you are ready for this kind of question: "What do you know about this company?" But if the interviewer doesn’t ask, you can also add what you know about the company in your answers to show your interest. Browse the company’s website, pay special attention to its products, look at the organization’s social media. You can get some extra information by googling the company and checking the interviewer’s LinkedIn.

  1. Get ready – Tu Nguyen – Recruitment Team Leader

First impression can make or break your job interview. Your research should help you know about the organization’s culture so remember to pick the most professional appearance you can accomplish. A fit, clean outfit suitable to the company and you’re good to go.

Don’t wait until the last minute to check your suitcase. Print extra copies of your resume or reference list, find a notepad and bring some pens. If you have a portfolio or samples of your work, bring those along too.

Being on time to the interview is a good way to show you’re a potential employee and your sincere will add to that first impression. 61% of Adecco Vietnam social media followers agreed candidates should arrive 10 minutes early to a job interview. This extra time can be used to freshen up, set your energy, and focus on what you want them to remember about you and what you want to ask them.

  1. How you say matters – Chuong Nguyen - Manager - HR, Legal, Technology and Media

During the interview, try to speak in a clear and confident voice. This whole process can be stressful, even for seasoned candidates. Try to take a deep breath if you find your hearts doing a staccato dance. If it helps, remember that the interviewer was once a candidate just like you and s/he probably sweated a bit too. When you answer the questions, make sure to illustrate your points with relevant results, skills or qualifications to show the interviewer that you're a good fit for both the position and the company. Lastly, remember to use non-verbal communication skills like making eye contact and smiling to support your answers and interact with the interviewer.

  1. Bring some questions of your own – Long Nguyen – Recruitment Team Leader

Most candidates answer no when the interviewer asks if they have any questions. Wrong answer. How you ask should show that you are interested in the company. Asking the right questions will give you the opportunity to find out if this is the right place for you.

  1. A thank you email goes a long way – Vinh Phan - Principal Consultant

Before you say goodbye, make sure to show courtesy and politeness by thanking the interviewer and the organization for giving you this opportunity. Then follow up with an email within 24 hours of your interview to reinforce your interest in the position. Doing this will certainly give you an edge over any of the other candidates who didn’t bother to send thank-you notes.
