Job summary
As the Lead for AWS Cloud Operations (CloudOps), you will collaborate closely with the Platform team to focus on AWS infrastructure and automation. A pivotal aspect of this role involves championing and spearheading the utilization of infrastructure as code. Your primary responsibility will involve implementing tools and processes that facilitate rapid software development and deployment.
Your main objective is to embrace a continuous integration and deployment approach within a delivery pipeline, which automates quality checks, accelerates cloud infrastructure deployment, and provides operational tools and metrics accessible to development teams. Achieving success in this role requires a blend of development and operational experience, enabling you to comprehend the needs of the developers while also ensuring critical system uptime.
Job Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of continuous delivery and automation frameworks, and establish pipelines to enhance the experience for both developers and customers.
- Lead the development of disaster recovery strategies, patching procedures, cloud security, and data retention practices. Provide guidance, consult AWS Best Practices, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support delivery.
- Identify and cultivate opportunities for enhancing automation tools and processes.
- Cultivate new skills and promote a mindset centered on continuous delivery and prioritizing cloud technologies.
- Manage daily tasks within an agile team environment, utilizing agile practices as part of a collaborative team and community.
- Periodically provide after-hours on-call support, including overtime when required.
- Be prepared for occasional travel (up to 10% of the year).
Experience requirements
- Proficiency in managing both Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Hands-on experience with essential AWS services (VPC, NACL, TransitGateway, EC2, ALB/NLB, RDS, etc.).
- Familiarity with networking concepts, firewalls, load balancers, disaster recovery, and high availability.
- Ability to oversee and enhance monthly patching, security patching, backup/restore, and disaster recovery processes.
- Familiarity with at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Bash).
- Knowledge of infrastructure provisioning tools like AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, or CDK.
- Bonus points for experience with Docker, container orchestration (ECS/EKS), and source control concepts (Gitlab/Git flow, Trunk base, branches).
- Possess an automation-focused mindset, capable of developing tools to enhance efficiency, reliability, and performance of repetitive tasks.
- Understanding of cloud change management practices, including compliance and security standards.
- Effective communication skills in English, enabling collaboration with both business partners and technical teams.
- Demonstrate strong logical thinking and adept problem-solving abilities.
- Exhibit curiosity and a proactive attitude toward self-learning.
- A significant advantage: AWS certifications such as DevOps, SysOps, or Advanced Networking Specialty.
