Job Responsibilities
As the General Manager, you will be responsible for driving development in Vietnam. Your focus will be on establishing a market-leading retail business that integrates advanced technological platforms, combining traditional brick-and-mortar operations with an omnichannel approach tailored for consumers and traditional retailers. This will involve overseeing the creation and scaling of separate verticals within the business.
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute a strategic plan to transform the investment thesis into actionable greenfield or partnership strategies.
- Identify and leverage local partnerships to support market entry and expansion efforts.
- Regularly update shareholders on progress, challenges, and strategic recommendations.
Retail Format Development:
- Refine and validate the omnichannel retail customer value proposition (CVP) through customer research (e.g., desk research, focus groups, surveys).
- Assess the potential of the B2B segment, including traditional retailers, for adopting new services such as inventory management, e-payments, and digital services.
- Define pilot projects' scope, including assortment, pricing, promotions, customer experience, and service levels.
- Set objectives, budgets, and timelines for pilot projects and oversee the hiring of key personnel.
- Execute pilot projects across multiple dimensions, including location, real estate development, supply chain, in-store operations, commercial activities, and technology integration.
- Conduct iterative testing, learning, and refining cycles to optimize commercial and operational aspects of the pilots.
Scaling New Retail Formats:
- Establish processes and best practices for scaling successful retail formats.
- Ensure seamless integration of technology to enhance the e-offering for consumers and traditional retailers.
- Develop strategies for financial services and digitalization tailored for local traditional retailers to boost their operational efficiency.
- Expand the team as necessary across various functions, including commercial, operations, supply chain, IT, HR, and finance.
- Define objectives, budgets, and timelines for scaling up in alignment with the joint venture strategy and ensure execution within approved budgets and timelines.
Experience requirements
- Over 10 years of experience in startups or strategy consulting, focusing on the launch of innovative products, especially those with technology components.
- Strong understanding of the Southeast Asian market.
- Extensive experience in retail, with a preference for candidates with experience in discount retail formats.
- Proven track record of working with shareholders and senior executives.
- Proficiency in English
- In-depth knowledge of various retail channels, including modern brick-and-mortar, e-commerce, and traditional channels.
- Demonstrated success in launching and managing businesses.
- Experience building and leading high-performing teams to achieve business objectives.
- Strong focus on customer experience and satisfaction across all retail initiatives.
- Ability to implement efficient processes and systems to enhance store performance.
- Skilled in utilizing data and analytics for strategic decision-making and growth.
Education requirements
- Degree in Business Administration or a related field (Master’s/MBA preferred).
