Special Process and Technology Support Engineer (Painting)

Job Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities:

• Oversee and manage Special Processes such as Surface Treatment for both New Product Introductions (NPI) and Engineering Changes (ECs), as well as mass production.
• Drive continuous improvement in Quality, Lead time, Cost, and Throughput (QLTC) related to special processes.
• Define, update, and maintain Pre-treatment and Painting Work Instructions, along with technical specifications.
• Lead sustainable and continuous improvement initiatives in procedures and practices related to special processes.
• Provide technical support for sheet metal manufacturing processes.

Key Tasks:

Technical Support for NPI:

• Provide expertise in processes such as painting, surface treatment, heat treatment, and cleaning during the NPI stage.
• Understand customer specifications, set up processes, and support supplier and process qualification.
• Review and validate test results, including coordination with third-party testing as required.

Work Preparation:

• Develop and improve preparation work for painting and surface treatment parts, including risk analysis, BOM, work instructions, checklists, and process qualification programs.
• Implement Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) to reflect improvements and updates.

Process Optimization:

• Collaborate with workshop teams to continuously improve existing volume manufacturing processes, tooling, and documentation.
• Optimize process control plans to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, improve delivery, and ensure safety (LEAN, CPR, CTR).

Production Data Analysis:

• Consolidate and analyze production data to assess the effectiveness of quality improvement initiatives.
• Provide technical expertise and support for troubleshooting process-related problems in the workshop.
• Maintain powder setup to ensure optimal utilization rates.

Quality Assurance Interface:

• Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to execute in-process checks and address issues.
• Investigate root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions (RCA, CAPA) for customer complaints and in-process quality defects (PDCA).

Vendor and Facility Assessment:

• Work with cross-functional teams to evaluate new vendors and establish new facilities and processes.
• Training and Development:
• Develop and deliver training programs for operational staff, including technical training and LEAN manufacturing concepts and tools.

EHS Improvement:

• Actively participate in Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) initiatives to improve plant safety across all operations.

Other Tasks:

• Perform other duties as assigned by superiors.

Experience requirements

Have over 5 years working experience in Sheet Metal Surface pre-treatment and powder coating process.

Education requirements

Bachelor or above, degree on chemical related major.
